Underground War 2.0 Digging and Tunnels

Auto-dig lanes, dirt durability, bait holes, and when farming points is worse than pathing to the flag.

Digging and Tunnels

The shovel is why the game is not a courtyard deathmatch. Slot 3 auto-digs dirt, prints a trickle of points, and is the only reliable way to open a path to the enemy flag without walking the sniper-covered surface. This page is how dirt dies, how to cut a lane you can actually fight in, and when to stop farming $1 ticks so someone can run the 50-point steal. Flag routes that use those lanes are on How to Capture the Flag. The nuke at map center still needs a point lead those lanes help build; see How to Launch the Nuke.

Shovel auto-dig

Equip slot 3 and walk into dirt. The shovel chews without a click. Standing still with the sniper or sword out does not mine. The common new-player stall is mashing click on slot 3 like a block game — you can, but you do not have to, and the extra click delay is how a sword user walks up your spine.

Shovel speed is the Cash upgrade that changes how fast a lane appears. It does not change the scoring table. A fast shovel still pays 1 point and $1 per two dirt blocks on NamuWiki’s table (Sportskeeda: 1 point per brown-outline wall — same loop). It just gets you to the flag courtyard before the round’s nuke window is already someone else’s problem.

Binds, including the fact that auto-dig is not a mouse mash, are on Controls. This page assumes you can switch 3 → 2 before a peek.

Dirt durability

Dirt is not one-hit wallpaper. Community durability from NamuWiki:

ToolDirt durability
Shovel−1 per chip (the mining tool; auto)
Sword−1
Sniper / gun−1
Rocket launcher−5

Sword and gun chips are side effects of fighting in a wall, not a reason to leave the shovel in slot 1. Rockets are the exception: gamepass 49150929 owners can open a packed lip in a few shots, which is why a “safe” wall in front of a camper is only safe until a rocket exists. If nobody on the server bought the pass, treat −1 tools as the pace of the map.

Brown outlines mark the walls that pay the dirt point. If you are purely farming, follow those outlines. If you are pathing, ignore a row of outlines that leads away from the enemy flag. Points are a bonus on a lane, not a reason to maze yourself.

Safe tunnels

A safe tunnel is a lane you can walk, fight in, and still hide from tower snipers.

  • Height: tall enough for an R6 walk with a flag. A crawl you must jump through is a sword blender for whoever waits at the far lip.
  • Width: one body plus a little strafe. A four-wide highway is a sniper hall. A shoulder-wide crack is a 50/50 you cannot escort through.
  • Mouth: one clean exit beside the enemy courtyard, not under the pole. Opening under the flag dumps you into the four surface holes’ kill zone (center, left-middle, top-left, top-right around the flagpole).
  • Cover: leave dirt on the surface side so a tower cannot look straight down the whole length. A glass ceiling is a kill cam.

Cut toward the other fortress, not in a circle under your own spawn. Early-round digging that never leaves your half is $1 farming dressed up as “map control.” Two players can cut parallel lanes so a collapsed mouth still has a backup. Six players cutting six personal mazes is how flags go unescorted. How to Play is the who-should-dig call; this is the geometry.

When you peek a mouth, sword out. Combat Tips covers the swap. The shovel does not win the lip.

Bait holes

A bait hole is a short extra opening that looks like a lane and is not. Uses that are actually useful:

  • A decoy mouth ten studs off the real exit, so a camper commits to the wrong brightness change.
  • A drop from surface into your own dirt so you can escape spawn pressure without using the four known flagpole holes.
  • A look-hole that sees mid without exposing a flag runner. Mid is where the nuke object sits; a look-hole that cannot fit a body is safer than a second highway.

Bait holes that are not useful: five random pits in your own courtyard (they become their flag path), and holes that dump a runner into a tower angle. If you open a hole, you own the camp problem. Either hold it or seal the idea by not digging it.

Surface holes already exist at each flagpole. You do not need to add more on top of the pole. Use the existing four when the tower is empty; use a tunnel when it is not.

Point farming versus pathing to the flag

Dirt is the safe point. It is also the slow point. Do the math from the scoring table: a flag is 50, a kill is 7, two blocks are 1. Farming outlines is correct in the first minutes, when no lane exists and a fight would be a surface suicide. It becomes wrong the moment a path can reach their pole and you are still circling brown walls under your own towers.

Farm when the other team is stacked on your holes, when you are broke on Cash and need shovel speed, or when you are waiting for teammates to respawn and a short outline wall is free. Stop when the $1 ticks are delaying a 50-point steal or when the nuke HUD is already a threat — you cannot shovel a countdown off the map. Path, escort, steal, then hold.

Path with a destination: their flag, or a lip that sees mid for the later nuke. A tunnel that ends in a dead room is a grave. Connect to an existing mouth rather than starting a third maze. After the flag is home, the same lane is your defense: hold your mouths so they cannot copy the steal.

Anticheat still applies underground. Speed-digging scripts and teleports through dirt explode you or strip guns the same way a flag TP does. Dig at shovel speed. If a clip shows someone deleting a mountain in a second, that is not the shovel upgrade — and it is not a tactic this page will teach.

First-hour players should cut one lane, buy shovel speed or a combat upgrade (not both from a tiny pile), and try one flag through that lane — the order in Getting Started. After that, digging is maintenance: repair collapsed mouths, plant one bait, and get out of slot 3 before the fight. The shovel opens the map. The sword, sniper, flag, and nuke close it.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Underground War 2.0 players.

Does the shovel need a click to dig in Underground War 2.0?

No. Equip slot 3 and stand next to dirt. It auto-digs. Clicking is not required. See Controls for the rest of the layout.

How much dirt does each tool break?

Shovel, sword, and sniper chip −1 durability. The rocket launcher chips −5. Rockets require gamepass 49150929.

Should I farm dirt points or dig to the flag?

Farm brown-outline walls only until a lane exists. A flag is 50 points; two dirt blocks are 1. Path to their pole, then read How to Capture the Flag.

Where are the surface holes?

Four per flagpole: center, left-middle, top-left, and top-right (NamuWiki). They are faster than a fresh tunnel and more camped. Sword out at the lip.
